Back in high school when Project
Runway was big and I was applying to colleges, thinking I’d go to RISD or
Purdue’s fashion merchandising program, I was told that despite my obsession, fashion
didn’t have to be my career, it could just be a hobby.

I quickly switched to film, which I’d dabbled in since iMovie’s ’99 release date, and loved it. While I don’t regret anything I learned, I noticed that while my friends were obsessing over Tarantino’s next move, I was shoe-stalking every website, store and person I came across. Some of my best papers were about film fashion where I Anna Wintour-ed the sh*t out of costume designers.
I realized you do your best work when you’re obsessed.
A few years later, I’ve graduated, moved to New York City and am looking for a new job, now following what I love and not what I think I should love.
Mand Made This is for fashion fiends, job seekers and anyone looking for some mild sarcasm or below amateur modeling. People always ask me for advice so I Mand Made This as an outlet for both you and me. While I may not be on Project Runway or drinking a Mountain Dew any time soon, my past experiences have helped guide me here as I try to pursue life’s next step.
I hope Mand Made This is as fun for you as it is for me. Happy reading!
xxo Amanda
