Do you know what’s insane? I live in a place where 40
degrees is considered warm.
If I lived in Florida, or anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon
line for that matter, 40 is cold… as it should be.
A mere 8 degrees above freezing, New Englanders have been
known to bust out the cargo shorts and flip flops and trade down jackets for
trench coats.
Our bodies have become so conditioned for this polar vortex
life that as soon as the opportunity arises to ditch our sleeping bag coats, we
do, and then some. And it’s sad. So, so sad.
I partook in this regionally pathetic phenomenon today,
opting for an oversized menswear blazer because, why not? It’s Women’s Appreciation
Day so let’s be oxymoronic.
Also, there are only so many coats that can be worn in between
seasons. My recommendation when buying transitional items is to think about how
you’ll wear it in the off months—as in when it’s not full fledged winter or
sunny, smiley spring. You can’t buy something for just the warmer half of
February then retire it in late March. Well maybe you can, but I don’t. That
would be considered fiscally irresponsible.
This was also hopefully the last time I wear “winter boots”
inappropriately. Also seen here.
