2014 FAIL

So far I have sucked at 2014.

Is it just me or is this year already whizzing by? Like where did January go? And why are people already planning St. Patrick’s Day?

Like most normal people, I started the year off with such high hopes. New Year, new me. My first weekend of the New Year was spent in Atlantic City for a good friend’s birthday where I vowed to become a millionaire.

What actually happened was that I had no hand sanitizer and thus only won the flu.

Side note: To anyone I have ever mocked for having the flu I’m sorry. It’s legit and those shots should not be reserved for the elderly (my long-standing excuse for opting out).  Luckily, with a potent combo of watermelon sherbet, Tamiflu and Yogi Tea, I moseyed back into the world fresh-faced and wearing pants—a mere week and a half later.

I felt great! (Detoxing my body of caffeine while simultaneously eating like I was J. Simps pregnant) but then I realized I was three weeks behind on my clichéd exercise and diet plan and just wanted to eat my way out of a pool of Jell-o then complain about how full I was. Epic fail.

My solution was my resolution: be normal and get healthy.

I spent a stupid amount of money to get my Ballet Beautiful DVD unstuck from my DVD player and now had no other excuse to put calorie-burning and muscle-toning on hold. So as of recently, I spend my nights lying on the floor, cursing Mary Helen Bowers through my laptop on how much her bridge series and swan arms hurt every freaking inch of my body.

And in tandem with my new pseudo workout regime, I also wanted to kick start my smoothie breakfasts. I’m a big fan of drinking my meals but haven’t had time to prepare legit breakfast foods with my new job and the early morning commute.

My tip*: Pre cut the fruit the night before and keep it in the blender, in the refrigerator over night. In the morning, just add your water/coconut milk and blend. Go the extra mile and cut enough fruit for the next few days and pack a smoothie’s worth into individual ziplock bags or containers. Trust me, it’s easier than brewing your coffee and you’ll be feeling good all day.

I know these are baby steps but if you’ve slacked on your resolutions so far, fear not, the year is just beginning.

Smoothie recipes to come soon!

*Another 2014 setback was putting my peanut butter loving golden to sleep. We all know what it’s like to lose a pet, particularly one that is so integrated into the family. I will forever miss my little angel, Libby.
