The New Normal

No NeNe Leakes required.

I’m yet another blogger to jump on the bandwagon of stripes as the new neutral. Originally gaining popularity in 2011, this trend is now in full unparalleled bloom (get it?).

Maybe it’s because my plain white T’s (the non-Delilah singing ones) have started to lose the sex appeal I once coveted, or, in all honesty, it’s because they are all stained and therefore deemed unsexy, but I’ve recently been turning to my old stripers (not to be confused with strippers) and thankfully have less responsibility for cleanliness.

The benefits of stripes, both of the horizontal and vertical varieties, are endless. Aside form hiding coffee dribbles and pit stains, they can also elongate your body or optically illusion-ally (?) shave off some lbs—I swear. The best part though? They legit go with everything, especially other prints and textures and are great for layering.

Pairing the mix-matched designs will show confidence and give that not-trying-too-hard-just-threw-this-together-but-instantly-look-street-style-chic look. They are amazing. Not to mention, stripes seem to easily transition into any location where the median age is anyone over 52.

I recently matched prints to my interview from hell.

Shirt: (obviously un-ironed) J. Crew. Similar available from Banana Republic here.

Skirt: Halogen. Bought at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago but I would love these options too: this or this from Zara; these textured stripes from Nordstrom; or this woven knit from Club Monaco.

Shoes: Nasty Gal.

Bangles: J. Crew. Similar from Alexander McQueen available here and from Francesca's here.

Ring: J. Crew. Old but love this Oscar de la Renta alternative.

Bag: Cuore and Pelle Amelia Bag in persimmon.

Sunglasses: Target (best purchase of my life). Similar available at ModCloth here.

I also added stripes to my prints patriotically while at Cisco Brewery on Nantucket.

Shirt: J. Crew. Love this linen-silk blend from T by Alexander Wang, this J. Crew mixed stripe print (now on sale!), and this cult-favorite Comme des Garçons Tee.

Shorts: MM Couture

Shoes: Toms.

Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs. So old but I would love to update it with this little number from Stella McCartney. More stripes!

Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana

Belt: H&M
