Show, don’t tell.

Badass booties.

I just told you about the mysticism of the black ankle boot but I never showed you how to wear them. Silly Mandy.

As a previously proclaimed practice what you preach-er, I took my own style advice and followed my quick tips when looking for a new pair of black booties. Heel, close toe, interesting and black. Check, check, check and check. See how easily one shoe can incorporate it all?

There seems to be a lot of resistance when pairing ankle boots with dresses or skirts. Since many of you think it will stubbify your legs, I’m here to prove that you are wrong. Pairing boots with skinny jeans is a never-fail but when you want to mix it up, don’t shy away from the bare leg look.

The obvious remedy to curing any short leg syndrome is to lengthen by taking away—as in shorter dress, longer legs. But you need to make sure that while doing this, you stay covered up where you can, whether that be long sleeves, a sweater or a cropped snuggie—you’re call. If you bare all everywhere, no, you won’t look short, but you will look a slu--someone who doesn't know about proper proportions so try to find something that hits mid-thigh, somewhere between your hips and knees.

Adding some movement to your dress (i.e. an A-line or shift) and steering clear of the bodycon is another great secret for going shorter as it’s a less in-your-face version of the mini and won’t make it look like you’re out for your third celebration of your 21st birthday. But you know, if it is you're 21st birthday, whatever floats your boat--we've all been there.

Shout out to my favorite twin photographer, Taryn for the help. Sing her praises in the comments below!
