As if you need me to tell you what tonight is.
One night a year, Angels descend on Earth for us all to
admire. They lift our spirits with their gilded fairy wings while
simultaneously crushing our souls with their too tight abs and Amazon legs.
It’s the love hate relationship all women have with these Angels which deems
tonight the happiest night on television—and tomorrow the worst day of the
year.
Yes. Tonight is the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and if
you’ve been following me on twitter (@mand_made), you’ll know that YET AGAIN, I
was not invited to attend. Instead, as per every year, I’m hosting my annual viewing party.
As you can probably imagine, my invites were sent out as
soon as I realized I was not going to the show—approximately three weeks ago. A girl can dream. I made these on Paperless Post, and
with an ode to the late, great Oscar de la Renta, designed them on the fashion
house’s custom lace print.
You may be thinking it’s too late to plan your own bash, but
I promise it’s not. Mass text the girls, put on a full face of glam, grab a
glass of champagne and whatever you do, do not wear normal clothes. Watching
bouncing bombshell hair on models that make Taylor Swift look short is so much
more of a buzz kill in sweatpants and a messy bun. Have some fun and be
confident! That’s what this show is about.
In between segments, sprinkle in a few of these Fashion Show
facts to keep the conversations alive and to avoid any self-deprecation speak.
There were a lot of firsts this year:
1. Behati Prinsloo (married to Adam Levine) opens
the show for the first time in her VS career.
2. The first pair of wings Karlie Kloss wears are
coated in 18k gold.
3. This is the first time the show has strutted
over the pond into the UK. Previously it was held in NYC, Miami, LA and Cannes.
4. This is also the first year that there were two
fantasy bras—worn by Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. Each are valued at
$2 million.
5. Elsa Hosk hit Ariana Grande with her angel wings
and it went viral.
6. According to Ed Racek, the brand's senior creative officer, 500 million viewers across 185 countries are
expected to tune in tonight.
7. The 3,000 guests of the show had to adhere to a
black and white dress code.
I hope you all enjoy tonight as much as I do! Tune in to CBS @ 10pm and follow me on
twitter for the play by play.
Have fun, Angels!
