Workwear Dressing

Business AND party in the front.

It’s no secret that as a post grad girl, I’m on a budget. (Turns out I’ll probably be calling myself this 4 lyfe so best to reaffirm it now.) Being on this perpetual budget (which sucks), I’ve realized that when I can’t go out and buy something that is 700x better than what is hanging in my closet, I need to repurpose what I already own in a way that makes me feel cool and noteworthy. (This part is v. important.)

Layering is the key here. I mean how many ways is there to wear a dress without needing to throw something unexpected over it… or if we are speaking the same language, under it.

That was my inspo for this latest outfit. It’s for when you know you’re getting drinks after work but hate everything you’ve ever bought and your only solution is borrowing your roommate’s chiffon blouse AGAIN or going naked.

Since HR and Instagram both hate nakedness and you still haven’t gotten that blouse dry-cleaned despite what you promised your roommate a week ago, you’re stuck needing to get a little crafty.

I recommend layering summer’s bustier look with a crisp white shirt for some unexpected sex appeal and a perfect day to night transition. You’re just about 100% covered up while still showing off that waist you were supposed to be working on since your January New Year’s resolution.

Be bold and play with textures. Here I wore jacquard pants with a metallic embossed top and snakeskin pumps. Too much or not enough? I say just right.

Shirt: Halogen via Nordstrom
