How do you like them apples?

No, don’t worry, this isn’t another tearful reference to iOS7 nor is it any indication that I’ll be asking for a betch upgrade to the iPhone 5s soon.

According to WBZ Channel 5’s local newscasters, September is apple month, so I’m taking their advice on how to numb the pain of the encroaching cooler temps by planning my upcoming blog posts accordingly.

Over the remaining weeks of September, as the autumnal solstice approaches, you will read four articles dedicated to the forbidden fruit and start looking at apples as coping mechanisms for seasonal depression.

The first installment: apple picking. This is the primary step in easing into fall. Exploit your potential eagerness to wear your new knee-high boots and run, don’t walk, to your local orchard soon because apple picking season creeps up on us quickly and by the time the leaves change and you think it’s time to don your favorite flannel and head to the farm, apple picking becomes picking up a bag of apples at the grocery store and you’re left with pumpkin picking (and you know how I feel about premature pumpkins).

My friends, sisters, boyfriend and I spent this weekend stuffing our faces with apples and their higher in saturated fat counterpart, the apple cider donut. (Dunkin Donuts really effed me over on the proper spelling of donut.)

I saw the day as a perfect opportunity to wear socks for the first time in months and also pair a simple white tee with colors that would allow me to blend in with nature (in the very plausible emergency situation that my boycotting of porta potties would backfire and I would be stuck between a rock and a hard place an apple tree). Kidding. This wasn't my thought process but it totally could apply here.

I got dressed looking for something both casual and comfortable, attempting to forgo any trying-too-hard vibe because in all actuality, I'm spending my day in a field with complete strangers, 1/2 mile away from civilization, who all rationalize that spending $20 on 14 apples is necessary. I've also been living in this tee shirt for the past four days (apparently permanently knotted on the left as an aversion to tucking it in) and couldn't fathom taking it off for a photo op.
