Lazy Girl’s Guide to Drinking Whiskey

A cheers to Apple Month.

It’s no secret that whiskey tends to err on the side of masculinity. Feminists, stand down. While you may be slugging down your vodka sodas, splash of cran, the guys are sipping (or shooting) their whiskey all night long. Now I’m sure this is fun and really gets the man juices flowing but as you probably know, that’s a pretty potent shot. I myself only partake in whiskey drinking events when they are followed by, umm, pickle juice.

I understand that the ultimate lazy girl would drink whiskey straight, but if you’re like me, and are not enjoying this adult beverage alone, you’re going to want to be conscious of any facial contortion or apparent quick-onset neuromuscular disease caused by an aversion to the bitter beverage. You know, that face you make after tasting something when the direct response is “yuck.”

I wanted to make the drink more user-friendly and if you’re reading between the lines, yes I wanted to mask some of the flavor, because no, I apparently am not one of those cool girls that can drink this shiz with the guys and swear like a sailor while simultaneously wearing five inch heels after having an amazing session at heat yoga two hours prior. This type of girl does, in fact, exist.

I also think bourbon is a fabulous sounding beverage and wanted to partake. (For the purpose of this post, I’m going to go ahead and put bourbon and whiskey on level playing field.)

The Break Down:

2 oz. Fireball Cinnamon Whisky*

5 oz. Apple cider (pick up a fresh jug when you’re apple picking!)

1 oz. Fresh orange juice (aka, squeeze ½ an orange in there, or if you’re the ultimate lazy bum, a splash of bottled OJ will suffice)

*If you use plain Jane whiskey, add ¼ tsp. cinnamon to the recipe.

For those of you like me who didn't know, 2oz. = a little over 1 shot. Use more or less depending on your lush level.

Mix all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice and pour into an Instagram-worthy highball glass (Altuzarra x Target pictured below). Garnish with a cinnamon stick and thinly sliced apple and enjoy!

This is a great drink to sip alfresco or inside with fall’s cool breeze blowing through an open window, appropriately wearing plaid. The apple cider mellows out whiskey’s abrasive flavor and the cinnamon from the Fireball makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
