You’ve Got A Friend In Me

Or at least in your reflection.

I have to say; the hardest part about living in New York City isn’t mastering the subway system or learning to live with getting elbowed on the sidewalk; it’s not regularly turning down a beautifully sinful dollar slice of pizza or choosing the stairs when there is a perfectly fine escalator right there. It’s not figuring out what to do when your grocery bag breaks 5 blocks away from your apartment and it’s not even accepting the fact that dogs must sh*t on cement because there. is. no. grass.

All those things suck but for me the hardest part has nothing to do with this city—it still has to do with home. I’m having the most trouble because I miss my sister.

I got dealt a pretty good hand of cards having to share a womb with my best friend. Aside from a brief stint apart while traveling Europe, I’ve been stuck with her up until last September when I moved here. We are obviously not Siamese twins* but I followed her almost everywhere prior to New York. I may have a better sense of direction but she’s a good decision maker and I always had that to rely on.

It didn’t hit me initially the toll the distance would take—I mean it did, but it really didn’t. It wasn’t until I got my new job (sidenote: finally) that I realized I would be here for a while and she would not and I’m not going to lie, that was hard.

I originally was going to write that whenever you’re feeling lonely here, just look in the mirror and remind yourself that you’re living your dream—that you’re actually doing it (I mean that’s what I do) but then I realized that was kind of stupid advice that most people would roll their eyes at. So instead, if you’re feeling lonely, just remember I wrote that and laugh at me. Laughing cheers everyone up.

So now to fashion and describing the pictures that have nothing to do with my sister: I think we just saw the final cold days of winter last week, which would mean that yes, I latergrammed this post again. But we were JUST talking about needing warmth! If those cool temps do creep up on us, you can look to this outfit for layering re-inspiration.
